GENERAL FLORENCE NOTES:
Get Lost!
That’s the best advice we can give. Spend time sans map to wander the cobblestone streets and discover the city on your own. The best way to acquaint yourself to Florence is by taking a stroll through the heart of the city. People-watch, stop for gelato, drink espresso, and enjoy the buzz of the city.
It’s really not that big, it just seems overwhelming.
Slow down...
For us, Italy is all about the moment and simple pleasures along the way, so slow down and consider any itinerary to be flexible. A strict agenda will only stress you out. See the main attractions, but don’t miss the true Florence experience (you can’t do it all in one trip). Relax, and don't worry if your quick stop for a glass of wine turns into an all night event (best case scenario!).
FYI:
-
•Large U.S. style breakfasts are hard to find in Europe (but not impossible).
-
•Rooms are smaller than U.S. standards & bathrooms can be outright tiny. Get Cozy!
-
•Book Uffizi and Accademia (David) tickets ahead of time (some hotels offer to do this for you).
-
•Rail travel is easy, efficient and covers a vast network. Rail passes are not necessary as tickets can be purchased easily on-site at all rail stations.
